About Us
Kinsale Hockey Club was founded in 2012 by a group of hockey loving volunteers who wanted to bring the sport to their local community. It all started when the IHA introduced their 'Tricks for Sticks' programme to the primary schools in the town. The objectives of this programme were to introduce the sport to the primary school children in the area with the aim of setting up a local junior hockey club which would eventually lead to a senior club in the town. We never expected how this idea would take off! In May 2012 we held 4 taster sessions for all children aged between 6-14 in Saile and had 80 children in attendance including a group of students from Kinsale Community School. Following a series of meetings in the community it was decided that there was an opening for a hockey club in Kinsale. The first meeting of Kinsale Hockey Club took place on Monday 31st August in the Trident Hotel. Our first official training session was held in Saile on 5th October 2012 and they have been an immediate success. The support we have recieved from Irish Hockey Association, in particular Phil Oakley, Saile Community Centre, Cork Local Sports Partnership, the local media, local schools and the parents of all our members has been unprecendented. We look forward to a bright future for hockey in Kinsale.......
